Bears Fall to Columbia 73-64 in Women's Basketball

NEW YORK, NY -- The Brown women's basketball team fell 73-64 to the Columbia Lions at Levien Gymnasium in its second Ivy League game of the season on Saturday.
Sophomore guard Tanara Golston (Skokie, IL) and senior forward Rada Pavichevich (Norwood Park, IL) each had 14 points to lead Brown (3-12, 0-2 Ivy). Golston was six of ten from the field and also picked up two steals. Pavichevich dished out three assists and also had three steals in the game. Sophomore Stephanie Bruce (Summit, NJ) chipped in with eight points and five rebounds for the Bears.
The Lions came out firing in the first half, netting eight of sixteen three-point field goals as they jumped out to a 42-31 lead at the break.
The Bears got back into the game when they opened the second half with an 11-4 run that cut the Columbia lead to four points at 46-42 with 12:54 remaining.
However, the Lions went on a 9-2 run over the next five minutes, which increased their lead to 11 points at 55-44 with 7:50 to go. The Bears came within five points of Columbia at 60-55 with 4:06 on the clock, but could not overcome the deficit in the final minutes of the game.
The Bears return to action on January 19 when they will face the Yale Bulldogs in New Haven, CT at 5:00 p.m.
