Jan. 9, 2007
Fairfax, VA - Brown (2-12) dropped its fifth straight game, as they fell,73-50, to George Mason (7-6) on Tuesday night at the Patriot Center. Freshman Lindsay Walls (Santa Cruz, CA) led the team in scoring with eight points, and both senior Ashley King-Bischof (Pleasanton, CA) and freshman Courtney Lee (Archer, FL) each added seven.
The Bears got off to a rough start, as George Mason jumped out to a quick,7-0,lead after the first two minutes of play. Mason's Moni Akintunde and Whitney Ward scored the first two buckets of the night, and Tracy Ann Holness converted a three.
Walls put Brown on the scoreboard with 14:11 in the first-half off a free throw, sparking the Bears' to 19 first-half points. But it wasn't enough to catch the Patriots, who were shooting 57 percent, and headed into the locker room with a 38-19 deficit.
The Patriots came out firing in the second half, as Akintunde, who netted 13 points in the first half, lit up for seven more adding to Mason's big lead. Akintunde was her team's leading scorer, finishing with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
The Bears, who couldn't match George Mason's hot hands, got down 56-32 with 10:42 left in the game and couldn't find a way to dig themselves out of the hole. The Bears eventually fell, 73-50, shooting just 33 percent on the night.
Brown senior Lena McAfee (Reston, VA) dished out three assists and grabbed two rebounds, as Lee and freshman Christina Johnson (Oakland, CA) each handed out two assists each. King-Bischof led the team in rebounds with six followed by Johnson with five.
Bruno will kick-off the Ivy League season when the team travels to Yale on Jan. 13, for a 2 p.m. start.
