NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Brown women's basketball team suffered a tough 64-57 loss to the Iona Gaels at the John A. Mulcahy Center on Tuesday afternoon.
The Bears trailed 30-22 at the half, but raced out on an 11-1 run with just over three minutes remaining in the game to take a 55-54 lead. However, Iona made some key transition baskets down the stretch to earn the victory.
Brown was led by sophomore guard Tara Williams (Portland, OR), who came off the bench to score nine second half points on four of ten shooting. Williams also dished out three assists in the second half. Sophomore Tanara Golston (Skokie, IL) added nine points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Freshman center Holly Robertson (Cochrane, Alberta) also checked in with nine points and three rebounds for the Bears.
Sophomore forward Nyema Mitchell (Birmingham, AL) scored eight points, grabbed 13 rebounds and had three blocked shots to pace the inside game for Brown (3-10).
Senior Megan Cobb (Plano, TX) scored a game-high 22 points on seven of twelve shooting from the field to lead Iona (3-9).
The Bears open their Ivy League schedule at Cornell and Columbia on January 11-12.
