Philadelphia, PA - The Bears (2-11), who suffered from cold shooting and turnovers, were defeated 71-37, by the Temple Owls (10-4) on Friday night. Freshman Shae Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA) led the Bears' offensive attack with a team-high 13 points and six rebounds.
Shooting a mere 19 percent (6-31) and collecting 14 turnovers in the first half the Bears fell 8-0 after the first five minutes of play. Freshman Lindsay Walls (Santa Cruz, CA) scored Brown's first five points of the game, making the score 14-5 with 11:31 on the clock. Brown headed into half-time down 35-16.
Contributing to the Bears' first-half points were Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA) with four points, senior Ashley King-Bischof (Pleasanton, CA) with three and both sophomore Catherine Schaper (Houston, TX) and freshman Courtney Lee (Archer, FL) with two each.
The game didn't get any better for the Bears, as they fell to a 30-point deficit with 13:48 left in the game. Temple's Kamesha Hairston, the Owl's leading scorer who averages 22.2 points per game, went off for 20 points in tonight's game as teammate Candace Borrows added 11.
Brown ended the game shooting just 25 percent from the field and ended with 21 turnovers. Following Fitzpatrick's 13 points was Walls with five points and Schaper, Lee and senior Courtney Peters (Naperville, IL) with four each.
Bruno is back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 9, when the team travels to Virginia to take on George Mason for a 7 p.m. competition. Ivy League play starts on Saturday, Jan. 13, for a 2 p.m. game against the Yale Bulldogs.
