Washington, D.C. - Georgetown used a decisive second half run to defeat Brown, 65-46, on Friday night at McDonough Gymnasium. The Bears fell to 1-12 on the season as the Hoyas improved their record to 10-3.
Junior Ashley Alexander (Houston, TX) led the way with 12 points for Brown, which outrebounded the Hoyas 36-35. Jaleesa Butler led all scorers with 19 points and Kierah Marlow tallied a double-double (17 points, 15 rebounds) for the Hoyas who finished the game on a 32-15 run.
Turnovers and poor shooting hampered Brown's effort to pick up a hard fought road victory. The Bears finished with 26 turnovers and shot just 34 percent from the field.
The Bears held the Hoyas to 28 percent shooting and trailed 25-24 at halftime behind eight first-half points from Alexander. Brown took its first lead of the game at 13-11 on a layup from Alexander in a first half that featured six ties and six lead changes.
The Hoyas stretched their lead to 44-36 with 9:38 to play behind eight points from Meredith Cox. Georgetown picked apart the Bears' defense taking a 19-point lead to end the game, 65-46.
Alexander led the team with 12 points and six rebounds, followed by sophomore Shae Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA) with seven points, and freshman Sadiea Williams (Lunenburg, MA) with six. Freshman Sarah Delk (Atlanta, GA) grabbed six rebounds, and senior Annesley O'Neal (Franklin, GA) handed out four assists.
Brown will return to action on Sunday, January 6th when it takes on nationally-ranked George Washington (#19) in Washington, D.C. at 2 p.m.
