The Brown University Women's Basketball Team fell to the Pioneers of Sacred Heart 85-73. This was the third meeting between the two teams in three years, the Pioneers now lead the series 2-1.
Brown trailed by as many as twelve before the half and took the lead half way through the second half, but the Pioneers took that lead right back at the seven minute mark and never looked back.
The Bears were led by junior Nyema Mitchell (Birmingham, AL) who recorded 23 points, 19 of which came in the second half. Freshmen Ashley Van Kurin (Yorba Linda, CA) and Sarah Hayes (Beaufort, SC) also scored in double digits for the Bears netting 12 points a piece. Hayes also contributed four steals, two assists and led the team in rebounds with eight.
The Bears are now 3-7 overall. Next action for the Bears will be this Sunday, January 5, 2003 at Stony Brook at 7:00 p.m.
