Joanna Skiba joined the Brown women's basketball staff as an assistant coach in June of 2011. Skiba arrived on College Hill from Rhode Island College, where she spent one season as an assistant basketball coach with the Anchormen. 

While at Rhode Island College, Skiba assisted with all phases of the program, including recruiting, scouting, practice execution, game coaching and alumni relations.  She oversaw all guard skill work with the goal to develop the best guards in the Little East Conference, while also organizing and executing post and guard Skills Clinics for community youth.

Skiba began her coaching career after an outstanding career playing professionally in both Spain and Iceland at Bryant University from 2003-2007.  She was a four-year starting point guard for the Bulldogs that currently ranks sixth in program history with 1,333 career points.  The Providence native is also second all-time in minute played in a career (3,500), third in made three-point field goals in a season (62), and second all-time in assists in a career (473).  

The Classic High School graduate is also among the Bulldog leaders in several other categories, which includes second all-time in career free throw percentage at .772 (294-381), fourth in career field goals made (428), fifth for field goals made in a season (143, 2005-06) and fourth in assists in a season (180, 2006-07).  

Skiba, a two-time team captain, was a Third Team All-Northeast Conference as both a sophomore and a junior and was selected to the league’s Second Team all-star squad as a senior. 

While at Classical, Skiba was Rhode Island’s Gatorade Player of the Year and scored 1,824 career points. She was an All-State selection as a junior after leading the Purple to the state finals and once again as a senior. 

She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing from Bryant in 2007, and has a minor in Psychology.  Skiba was a sales intern with the Boston Celtics in the summer of 2006 and went on to play professional basketball overseas from 2007-2010.
