PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's basketball will celebrate National Girls & Women in Sports Day when the Bears host Princeton University on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 4:00 p.m. at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

As part of the day, the first 100 youth girls in attendance at the game will receive a free sport water bottle and two free slices of pizza. All youth tickets will be free with the purchase of a regular-priced adult ticket.

"National Girls and Women in Sports Day is a great chance for us to take a moment and recognize the accomplishments and achievements of girls and women in sports," Brown head coach Sarah Behn said. "Especially with this year's theme of 'Play Fair, Play IX,' we have the opportunity to support continued efforts towards equality in sports."

February 7, 2018 marks the 32nd Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD). The 2018 theme is "Play Fair, Play IX." NGWSD is a time to celebrate the extraordinary achievements in girls and women's sports and the positive influence athletic participation brings to their lives. NGWSD recognizes the ongoing effort towards equality and access for women in sports and the nation's commitment to expand sport and participation opportunities for all girls and future generations.

NGWSD is an annual day of observance held during the first week of February to acknowledge the accomplishments of female athletes, recognize the influence of sports participation for women and girls, and honor the progress and continuing struggle for equality for women in sports. Since 1987, the day has stood as a way to bring attention to the accomplishments and positive influence of female athletes.

NGWSD was created to memorialize Flo Hyman, one of the most influential volleyball players in history. From 1974 to 1976, Hyman was a three-time letter-winner at the University of Houston, going on to win a silver medal in 1976 while representing the U.S. National Team in the Olympics. She died of Marfan's Syndrome in 1986.

Video of all Brown women's basketball home contests and all Ivy League games, home and away, will be broadcast live on the Ivy League Network, now available on Apple TV, Roku, and the ILN app for Android and Apple devices.
