PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's basketball sophomore guard Justine Gaziano has garnered Ivy League Player of the Week honors after leading the Bears to their second straight Ocean State Tip-Off Tournament title, the Ivy League conference office announced on Monday.
A native of Natick, Mass., Gaziano scored 20.7 points per game last week, helping Brown go 3-0 and win back-to-back Ocean State Tip-Off Tournament titles. Gaziano earned Ocean State Tip-Off Tournament MVP honors, leading all scorers at the tournament with 23.0 points per game.
She scored a game-high 26 points on 11-of-19 shooting in a 72-60 win over Bryant in the championship game and netted a game-high 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting in a 64-59 win over Providence in the semifinals. She added 16 points and five rebounds in an 82-78 win over Holy Cross on Wednesday. For the week, she shot 53.7 percent from the field (22-of-41), 44.4 percent from 3-point distance (8-of-18), and 83.3 percent from the free throw line (10-of-12).
For the season, she ranks second in the Ivy League with 18.8 points per game and second in free throw percentage (87.2). Gaziano has helped the Bears win five straight games and start the season 7-1 for the third time in program history.
Next, Gaziano and the Bears host Sacred Heart on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. (ILN) at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
