Women’s Basketball Seeks Season Sweep Against Yale

Providence, RI – The Brown women's basketball team will look to earn a season sweep against Yale when it hosts the Bulldogs at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25 at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Brown won the first meeting between the two teams on Jan. 19, when it handed Yale a 68-67 loss in New Haven to improve to 7-8 on the year (1-0 Ivy). Senior captain Sheila Dixon sank a free throw with 0.1 seconds on the clock to lift the Bears to victory over the host Bulldogs last weekend. She netted 18 points for the day and grabbed seven rebounds in the 68-67 win.

Ivy Co-player of the week, Lauren Clarke (Colts Neck, NJ), leads Brown in scoring with an average of 14.2 points per game. She put in 20 points against Yale, and 15 more against NJIT earlier in the week. Her 20-point performance was her fourth of the season, and she leads the league in three-pointers per game (2.3).

After two solid efforts last week, sophomore Sophie Bikofsky (Newton, MA) made the Ivy League weekly honor roll. She scored 1o points against NJIT and netted 11 against Yale.

Yale led at the halftime, 28-23, but suffered when Brown went on a 16-4 run during the second half. Sarah Halejian led the Bulldogs in scoring with 14 points and contributed crucial baskets towards the end of the game, but Yale was unable to make several of the final free-throw shots in the game. Yale's squad heads into Friday's game 5-10 overall and averages 67 points per game.

Tonight marks the 76th meeting between the two teams, with Brown leading the all-time series 43-32. Following last week's win at Yale, the Bears have now won the last two meetings.

After taking on Yale this Friday, the Bears will host Dartmouth at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, and Harvard at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2.
