Providence, R.I. – The Brown women's basketball team (5-6) will travel to Easton, Pa., for a 2 p.m. game at Lafayette on Saturday, Jan. 5. The Bears have won their last two consecutive, and are coming off an exciting come-from-behind, 48-45, victory over the visiting Army Black Knights on Wednesday evening. Junior point guard Lauren Clarke netted 10 of her 13 points in the final four minutes of the game to lead the Bears to a three-point victory over Army. Three Bears scored in double-figures, as Sheila Dixon paced the offense with 14 points and seven rebounds and sophomore Sophie Bikofsky added 10 points and five rebounds in the effort.
Although the Bears average just 52.7 points per game thus far, Brown ranks second in the Ivy League in scoring defense (57.5) and leads the league in three-point field goal defense, holding shooters to .247 percent from beyond the arc.
Lafayette and Brown are meeting for the fifth time, with the all-time series tied 2-2. Brown was victorious in the first meeting (65-63) on Nov. 24, 1985, but lost the next two before winning the last matchup, 71-50, on Dec. 7, 2002 at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Brown is 0-1 when playing at the Allan P. Kirby Sports Center.
Lafayette is coming off a 2011-12 season where it finished 8-22 overall and went 2-12 in the Patriot League. The Leopards, who returned four starters and nine letterwinners, are 5-8 overall with victories over Loyola Chicago, Wagner, Pittsburgh, St. Francis (Brooklyn) and Fordham. Most recently, Lafayette is coming off a 66-54 loss to the Big East's Providence College.
Danielle Fiacco and Emily Homan lead the Leopard offense with 11.3 points-per-game and Fiacco also boasts a team-high 9.5 rebounds per game. Lafayette is only averaging 52.4 points per game and is allowing its opponents 63.7 points per game.
