Kingston, R.I. – The Brown's women's basketball team will head to the Ryan Center at URI on Wednesday evening for a 7 pm tip-off against the Rams. The Bears head into tonight's game with a 1-2 record, while the Rams are 2-1 after defeating Siena this weekend. Livestats, video and Brown's play-by-play announcer Mike Mancuso will be calling the action on brownbears.com.
Brown's lineup took on Vermont last weekend, but the Catamounts claimed the 66-56 win for the day. Junior point guard Lauren Clarke (Colts Neck, NJ) led the scoring for the Bears with 20 points, with 16 more coming from sophomore Sophie Bikofsky (Newton, MA). Bifofsky netted four 3-point shots, and led the team in assists. The Bears held the lead during the first half, but Vermont tightened their defense after the break and pulled away.
The Rhode Island Rams added a win to their record on the 17th when they hosted Siena at the Ryan Center. They sealed their victory 47-39 after a low-scoring first half. Junior forward Emilie Cloutier had a team high 10 points, and freshman Tayra Melendez added nine to the scoring.
Headed by Coach Cathy Inglese, the Rams compete in the Atlantic 10 conference. They went 1-28 during the 2011-12 season, claiming a win over Providence College. Brown defeated the Rams 53-40 in their last meeting in January, but URI leads the all-time series 22-8.
The Bears will then head to Pittsburgh for a 1:00 game on the 24th in the Peterson Events Center against the Panthers.
