Burlington, V.T. – The Brown University women's basketball team is set to take on the Vermont Catamounts at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, in the Patrick Gymnasium. The Bears are just two games into the 2012-13 season and hold a neutral record, 1-1, and Vermont is 1-2 on the year.
Brown's squad faced Fairfield earlier this week in Connecticut, but fell to a 49-34 loss. Senior guard Sheila Dixon (Schenectady, NY) led the scoring for the Bears netting 15 points, while grabbing a team-high six rebounds. After a slow first half of the game, Brown was able to compete more evenly in the second and hold Fairfield to 16 points.
Vermont was in Rhode Island on Wednesday to play Providence College, and came away with a 92-76 loss. Senior Lauren Buschmann claimed 16 points in the second half, contributing to her 20 for the day. Buschmann has reached both 500 career rebounds and over 500 points scored.
The Catamounts' win came last week over Ivy League foe Columbia at the Patrick Gymnasium, 46-40. During the 2011-12 season they finished 10-20 overall, and 4-12 in the America East conference.
Last year, the Bears claimed a 61-57 victory over Vermont at home in the Pizzitola Sports Center. The teams were tied at 57 with just 12 seconds left on the clock, and two clutch free throws by Dixon helped edge out the Catamounts. Brown and Vermont have matched up only four times, with Vermont claiming three wins in the all-time series.
After travelling to Burlington, Brown will visit the University of Rhode Island on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game on Nov. 21.
