Providence, RI- Sheila Dixon (Schenectady, NY) led the Brown women's basketball team in scoring and rebounding with 16 points and five rebounds, while also making five steals, to help the Bears to a 60-49 victory over the visiting Cornell Big Red on Saturday evening at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Brown and Cornell both suffered from cold shooting in the first half tonight, as Cornell held a slight edge shooting 25 percent from the field while the Bears could make just 24 percent. Brown scored the first two points of the game after a jumper by Dixon, and that was its last lead of the half.

Cornell managed to keep the Bears to a season low 14 points in the first half and headed into the locker room at the half with a 20-14 lead.
But the Bears stormed their way back in the second half and tripled their points in the next 20 minutes of play with the help of Clarke and Passafuime, who scored all of their points in the second half. Brown shot an impressive 65 percent in the second half and use a late rally to pull away from Cornell and put the Big Red away for good.
Cornell, however, would not back down without a fight and tied the game six times in the second stanza, the last tie coming at the 4:30 mark with the score deadlocked at 40-40. But a three pointer by Clarke would then put the Bears on a 17-9 run in the final four minutes of the game to put the Bears ahead 60-49 to defeat the Big Red.
