Women’s Basketball Takes on Ivy League Opponents Princeton & Penn
Providence, RI- The Brown women's basketball team (11-7, 2-2 Ivy) will take on first-place Princeton University (13-4, 3-0) at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3 at Jadwin Gym, and will then travel to the University of Pennsylvania (8-9, 1-2) for a 7 p.m. game on Saturday, Feb. 4 at The Palestra. Brown's Friday night game vs. the Tigers will be televised on Verizon FiOS1.
Brown women's basketball coach Jean Marie Burr captured her 300th career win when the Bears rolled to a 74-50 win over Dartmouth last Friday night at Leede Arena. Sophomore point guard Lauren Clarke (Colts Neck, NJ) led the offense with 18 points, including an eight-of-eight performance from the free-throw line, while Hannah Passafuime (Soquel, CA) brought time a team-high eight rebounds and added 11 points. The Bears then traveled to Harvard where they suffered a 65-57 loss to the Crimson. Brown overcame an 18-point second-half deficit and tied the game with four minutes remaining, but Harvard edged the Bears by eight.
Junior guard Sheila Dixon (Schenectady, NY) leads Brown in scoring and rebounding with 13.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Passafuime follows with 12.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, while Clarke and senior Aileen Daniels (Waldwick, NJ) are both netting 9.7 points a game.
As a team, Brown is allowing its opponents to just 58 points per game, which ranks third overall in the Ivy League. Princeton's 55.8 leads the league while Penn's 56.2 ranks second.
