Providence, RI- Brown University sophomore point guard Lauren Clarke (Colts Neck, NJ) was named the Ivy League Player of the Week, as well as the College Sports Madness Ivy League Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her exceptional performance for the Bears. Clarke averaged 14.5 points, 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals in a 1-1 week for the Bears.
Brown, searching for its first Ivy League victory after falling to Yale, 75-65, just a week earlier, defeated the Bulldogs 60-55 on their home court to spoil their Ivy home opener. Clarke led the team in scoring with 15 points, while recording five rebounds, three assists and one steal. She also hit all five of her free throws, including four in the final two minutes of the game as Brown held on for the victory.
Earlier in the week Brown suffered an 81-74 loss to Holy Cross, but Clarke tallied 14 points, five assists, two rebounds and two steals in the defeat. She went 5-of-8 from the floor and 4-for-4 from beyond the arc.
The award is Clarke's first Ivy League weekly honor since receiving Rookie of the Week accolades on Dec. 13, 2010. She becomes the fourth Bear to take home Player of the Week honors this season, joining Aileen Daniels, Sheila Dixon and Hannah Passafuime.
