Smithfield, RI- The Brown women's basketball team travels across town to Smithfield this evening to take on the Bryant University Bulldogs (2-1) in a 7 p.m. game at the Chace Athletic Center. The Bears, who are 1-2 on the year, will look to start a streak after they defeated Albany last Saturday evening.
The Bears dropped their first two games of the 2011-12 season, but came back with a big 65-53 win over the visiting Albany Great Danes on Saturday evening. Sophomore Lauren Clarke, an All-Rookie Team selection, led the Bears with a team-high 17 points and nine rebounds. She scored 13 of those points in the second half and went 5-of-8 from the floor. Junior Sheila Dixon (Schenectady, NY) chipped in with 14 points and eight rebounds while senior co-captain Hannah Passafuime (Soquel, CA) knocked in 12 points. The Bears lead the all-time series vs. Bryant, 3-0.
The Bryant Bulldogs are coming off 65-53 victory over Maine over Maine on Sunday after Naana Ankoma-Mensa and Courtney Schissler paced the offense with 20 and 17 points, respectively, as both players set new career scoring highs. With just three games into the season, Bryant's 2-1 record stands as the best three-game mark since the team began playing a full Division I schedule in the 2008-09 season.
After tonight's game, the Bears will head to Orono, Maine where they will participate in the Dead River Company Classic at the University of Maine. On Friday, November 25, the Bears will take on Evansville at 4 p.m., and will then challenge either Maine or Troy.
