Women’s Basketball Unveils 2011-12 Schedule

Providence, RI- Head women's basketball coach Jean Marie Burr recently announced her team's 2011-12 schedule. The upcoming schedule features some exciting non-conference action and 14 home games at the Pizzitola Sports Center this winter.

The women's hoops team opens their season at home with a 7:30 p.m. against New Hampshire, and will then hit the road for a quick trip to NJIT for a game on the 13th for a 2 p.m. game vs. the Highlanders. But the Bears will be back in the friendly confines of the Pizzitola Sports Center on Nov. 19 to host Albany at 7:30 p.m., before traveling to in-state rival Bryant for a 7:00 p.m. vs. the Bulldogs on the 22nd.

The Bears are competing in two tournaments this winter, the first will be the Dead River Company Classic hosted at the University of Maine on Nov. 25-26. There the Bears will faceoff against Evansville (Nov. 25) and either Maine or Troy (Nov. 26). The Bears will head back home to close out November with a 5 p.m. game against Fairfield on Dec. 30.

Brown begins December with its annual Brown BEAR Basketball Classic on Dec. 3-4 hosting Rhode Island, Fairfield and Providence. Brown will tip-off against Rhody at 2 p.m. on Dec. 3 and will then play Providence at 4 p.m. on Dec. 4. The Bears will then host Vermont on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. before heading out west to take on Dominican University (Dec. 29) and San Jose State (Dec. 31).

In January, Bruno will travel to Kingston to compete against Rhode Island for a 7 p.m. game on Jan. 4, and the following week the Bears will open up Ivy League competition when it hosts the Yale Bulldogs on Friday, Jan. 13 for a 7 p.m. tip-off. Brown's last non-conference game of the year comes against Holy Cross on Monday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m., then the Ivy season is in full-swing almost every Friday and Saturday until March.

After an away contest vs. Yale on Jan. 20, the Bears will be on the road for the next two weekends challenging Dartmouth (Jan. 27), Harvard (Jan. 29), Princeton (Feb. 3) and Penn (Feb. 4). The Bears will then be back at the Pizzitola Sports Center to host Columbia (Feb. 10), Cornell (Feb. 11), Harvard (Feb. 17), and Dartmouth (Feb. 18), and will hit the road for one last trip against Cornell (Feb. 24) and Columbia (Feb. 25).

The Bears will close out the season on March 2-3 against Penn (7 pm) and Princeton ( 7pm) .  To view the complete schedule click here!
