• Women’s Basketball Recognizes Award Winners at Banquet

    Providence, RI- The Brown University women’s basketball team celebrated their 2010-11 season with a banquet in which the student-athletes, coaches and special guests honored the team’s hard work and season accomplishments with the presentation of varsity letters and team wards at Ardeo restaurant in downtown Providence.

    Providence, RI- The Ivy League released its winter list of Academic All-Ivy honorees, with 10 Brown student-athletes being recognized. The five males and five females were starters or key reserves on their respective varsity teams and carry a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.

  • Bears Earn Weekend Sweep with 65-55 Victory over Columbia in Final Game of 2010-11 Season

    Providence, RI- Freshman Lauren Clarke and junior captain Aileen Daniels netted 15 points apiece to help lead the Brown University women’s basketball team to a 65-55 victory over Columbia on Saturday night at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The Bears finished the 2010-11 season with a weekend sweep, and ended 10-18 overall with a 6-8 record in the Ivy League. The Bears snapped Columbia’s seven-game winning streak in the series, as the Lions dropped to 7-21 overall and 6-8 in the league.

    Providence, R.I. – Sophomore guard Sheila Dixon netted 17 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Brown women’s basketball team to a 60-55 victory over Cornell on Friday night at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The win improved Brown to 9-18 overall and 5-8 in the Ivy League, while Cornell dropped to 6-21 with a 3-10 mark in the league.

The win gave the Bears their first series sweep over the Big Green since the 1993-94 season.

    Cambridge, MA- The Brown women's basketball team came up short tonight, falling to Harvard University 72-59 at Lavietes Pavilion. Sophomore guard Victoria Lippert lit up for 20 points to improve the Crimson to 16-8 overall and 8-2 in the Ivy League. Sophomore guard Lindsay Nickel knocked in 15 points to lead the Bears offense, as Brown dropped to 7-16 overall and 3-8 in league play.

    Princeton, NJ- Princeton’s Lauren Edwards netted 20 points to lead the Tigers to a 75-38 victory over Brown on Saturday evening at Jadwin Gym. The Bears were led by junior captain Hannah Passafuime’s nine points, while Brown dropped to 7-17 overall and 3-7 in the Ivy League. With the win, the first-place Tigers improved to 18-4 and 7-1 in the league.

    Philadelphia, PA- Alyssa Baron’s 24 points and six rebounds led the University of Pennsylvania Quakers to a 55-43 victory over the visiting Brown women’s basketball team on Friday night at The Palestra. The Quakers improved to 10-12 overall and evened their Ivy record to 4-4, while the Bears dropped to 7-16 overall and 3-6 in the league.
  • Bears Win Three Straight with 57-56 Victory over Harvard

    Providence, RI- Sophomore guard Sheila Dixon netted 12 points and pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds to help lead the Brown women's basketball team to its third straight victory with a 57-56 win over first-place Harvard this evening at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The win over Harvard was Brown's first since its Ivy Championship season in 2005-06, and its first weekend sweep since that season as well. The Bears improved to 7-15 overall and are 3-5 in the Ivy League, while Harvard dropped to 13-8 overall and 5-2 in the league.

  • Dartmouth & Harvard Visit Brown for WBCA Pink-Zone Weekend

    Providence, RI- The Brown women’s basketball team (5-15, 1-5 Ivy) returns home to close out the first round of Ivy League play when it hosts Dartmouth and Harvard this weekend for its annual WBCA Pink-Zone weekend. Tonight, the Bears take on Dartmouth (5-14, 1-4) at 7 p.m., and all fans who wear PINK will get into the game FREE. The first 400 fans through the door will receive a megaphone and everyone will receive a breast cancer ribbon. The Bears then challenge Harvard (13-6, 5-0) at 7 p.m. tomorrow. Fans who wear pink will be eligible to win a prize pack from a Brown Athletics sponsor and the first 300 fans will receive a breast cancer awareness button.

Junior co-captain Aileen Daniels led the Bears in scoring tonight with 12 points and five rebounds, as Brown drops to 4-15 overall and fall to 0-5 in the Ivy League.

Penn’s Alyssa Baron put up 13 points while Brianna Bradford netted 12 to lead the Quakers to its first Ivy League win improving to 7-10 overall with a 1-2 mark in the Ivy League. Brown sophomore guard Sheila Dixon led the Bears offense with 13 points and five rebounds as the Bears dropped to 4-14 and 0-4 in the league.

    Providence, RI- Led by Addie Micir’s 18 points, the Princeton University Tigers rolled to a 70-48 victory over the Brown women’s basketball team to extend its Ivy League win streak to 21 while improving its record to 13-3 overall and move to 2-0 in the league. Sophomore guard Lindsay Nickel led Brown’s offense with 11 points, while the team dropped to 4-13 overall and are now 0-3 in league play.
  • Brown Basketball and Special Olympics

    The Brown men’s and women’s basketball teams and coaching staffs hosted a clinic for Rhode Island Special Olympics on Wednesday, January 19th, at the Olney Margolies Athletic Center. Over 150 special Olympians and an additional 50 guests took participated in the clinic. Brown players demonstrated the fundamentals of basketball, participated in drills with the Special Olympians that culminated in a dunk contest and scrimmages. After the event, the participants and student-athletes shared pizza and soft drinks, courtesy of Dominos Pizza.

Sophomore guard Sheila Dixon led Brown with 21 points and four rebounds, as the Bears fall to 4-11 overall and now have a 0-1 mark in Ivy play.

    Providence, RI- Junior captain Hannah Passafuime (Soquel, CA) posted her first career double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds this afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center, but it wasn’t enough to defeat the University at Buffalo as the Bears fell 58-53 in their first game of 2011. Buffalo improved to 7-6 on the year while the Bears dropped to 4-9.

    West Long Branch, NJ- Sophomore Sheila Dixon netted 15 points to lead the Brown University women’s basketball team in scoring today, but it wasn’t enough to claim the Hawk Holiday Classic Championship at Monmouth this afternoon as they were defeated by American, 56-47. The loss dropped Brown to 4-8 overall, while American improved to 9-4.

    West Long Branch, NJ- Junior forward Aileen Daniels (Waldwick, NJ) led the Bears with 15 points while four others scored in double figures to earn Brown a 75-71 victory over host Monmouth on Thursday afternoon. The win improves Brown to 4-7 on the year, while the Hawks drop to 8-3. Brown will now play the winner of the 4 p.m. game featuring American or Binghamton in the championship game at 2 p.m. tomorrow.
