New York, NY - Despite the rain and mud pouring down on Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday afternoon during the huge NCAA Northeast Regional Championships, the Brown cross country teams were led by junior Duriel Hardy (West Chester, PA) and freshman Ari Garber (North Falmouth, MA) who placed in the top 25 in their respective races.
Coming off a fifth place finish at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships, the men's squad finished in 12th place with 341 points, behind #8 ranked Iona (46), Providence (88), Columbia (103), Dartmouth (122), and Syracuse (161). Hardy ran a terrific race, recording a 32:17.4 for a team-high 15th place. Sophomore John Haenle (Lockport, NY) ran a good race as well, posting a 33:36.5 for 63rd place and sophomore Brian Schilder (Milford, NJ) followed closely behind with a 33:44.3 for 68th. Junior John Loeser (Weston, CT) was 78th with a 34:03.3, and freshman Matt Duffy (Oakland, CA) recorded a 34:54.0. Rounding out the top seven was Steve Chaloner (Merrimack, NH) with a time of 35:38.4, and junior Colin Brett (Easton, PA) with a 35:52.4.
On the extremely youthful women's side, Garber placed in the top 25 at the Northeast Regional Championships to lead Bruno to a 10th place finish with 301 points. Her 22:18.4 on the 6k course was good for 23rd place, as she was the Brown women's top finisher during the race.
No. 24 ranked Providence placed first with 36 points and Syracuse placed second to earn the Region's other automatic qualifying position with 90 points. No. 27 ranked Boston College (95), #23 ranked Stony Brook (118) and Columbia (140) were also in the top five of the 34 team field.
Following behind Garber and running a solid race was sophomore Lauren Pischel (La Jolla, CA), who finished in 56th with a 23:01.0, along with sophomore Michaeline Nelson's (McLean, VA) 61st finish with a time of 23:02.4. Sophomore Kesley Ramsey (Franklin Lakes, NJ) turned in a 23:03.2 for 62nd, and sophomore Samantha Adelberg (Washington, DC) earned a 23:40.5. Rounding out Brown's runners was Eliza Webber (Stoddard, NH) with a time of 23:56.1 and Caitlin Stone (Condon, MT) 24:49.8.
