Boston, MA - Led by junior Duriel Hardy's (West Chester, PA) fifth-place finish, the Brown men's cross country team earned third place at the 2008 New England Cross Country Championships at Franklin Park on Saturday afternoon. The Bears, who are ranked No.3 in the New England Cross Country poll, combined for a total of 97 points, placing behind UMAss/Lowell (79) and the University of New Hampshire (89).
After Hardy's swift personal record of 24:55, coming in seventh place was sophomore John Loeser (Weston, CT) with a 24:56, which beat him previous personal record at Franklin Park by one minute. Colin Brett (Easton, PA) was Brown's next scorer, coming in 19th place with a personal record of 25:11, which was 45 seconds faster than the last year. Freshman Matt Duffy (Oakland, CA) was next with a 25:14 and was the top freshman finisher in the entire race, as sophomore John Haenle (Lockport, NY) rounded out the scoring with a 25:34. Brian Schidler also stepped it up to make the top seven, and improved by over two minutes from last fall.
Next week, the Bears will compete at the University of Albany on Oct. 18. Brown will then head to Central Connecticut State on Oct. 25 before competing at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships at Van Cortlandt Park on Friday, Oct. 31.
