Men’s Cross Country Competes at Ivy Championship

NEW YORK – Senior Martin Martinez (Waukegan, Ill.) turned in a 20th-place finish as the Brown men's cross country team placed seventh at the 2017 Ivy League Heptagonal Championships Friday at Van Cortlandt Park in New York City.

Princeton won the Ivy team title with 28 points, followed by Columbia (43), Penn (91), Cornell (131), Dartmouth (138), Yale (158), Brown (164) and Harvard (189). Ryan Thomas of Columbia was the individual champion in a winning time of 24:57.0.

Martinez placed 20th out of 88 runners as he finished the 5-mile course in a time of 25:34.9. Sophomore Gabriel Altopp (Ridgefield, Conn.) recorded a 31st-place finish at 25:53.0, followed by senior Andrew Foerder (Seattle, Wash.) at 40th overall, who crossed in a time of 26:08.7.

Daniel McDonald Meteer (Arlington, Mass.) and sophomore Cameron Daly (Meredith, N.H.) secured 42nd and 45th, respectively, in times of 26:08.7 and 26:14.7 to complete the Brown scorers. Rookie David Scherrer (Virginia Beach, Va.) and junior Tom Hale (Loudonville, N.Y.) crossed the line at 26:25.4 and 26:38.9.

The Bears return to action on Friday, November 10 for the NCAA Northeast Regional in Buffalo, N.Y.
