EAST GREENWICH, R.I. – The Brown men's cross country team posted four top-ten finishes as the men's and women's programs hosted the annual Rothenberg Run Friday afternoon at Goddard State Park in East Greenwich, R.I.
The men's team won the meet with 33 points, placing ahead of Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Bryant. The women's team tied for third overall along with Rhode Island with 91 points, trailing Connecticut and Vermont, but placing ahead of Bryant.
Sophomore Zachary Lanigan (Sydney, Australia) placed third overall as he completed the 8-kilometer course in a time of 25:08.9. Junior Tom Hale (Loudonville, N.Y.) and rookie David Scherrer (Virginia Beach, Va.) placed fifth and sixth, respectively, at 25:12.5 and 25:12.7.
Rookie Jared Yabu (Moraga, Calif.) also finished inside the top ten, as he took eighth in a time of 25:18.8, while fellow freshman Ben McCoy (Alpharetta, Ga.) placed 11th at 25:28.6.
Junior Katia Matora (Redmond, Wash.) paced the women's side with a tenth-place finish as she completed the 5-kilometer course at 17:46.4. Senior Alexis Van Pernis (Kailua Kona, Hawaii) also secured a top-15 finish at 12th overall, crossing at 17:49.6.
Junior Allison Bellows (Coventry, R.I.) and freshman Ally Hajda (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) Crossed at 26th and 30th, respectively, in times of 18:16.3 and 18:20.0. Sophomore Katherine Treanor (Chevy Chase, Md.) finished at 18:30.2 to complete the scorers.
Brown will compete at the Pre-National Invitational tomorrow at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky.
