RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Junior Mark McGurrin (Manlius, N.Y.) finished 52nd overall to lead the Brown University men's cross country team to an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional Friday morning at Van Cortlandt Park.
Brown totaled 359 points to finish 11th overall, while Syracuse captured the meet with 57 points.
"I'm happy with our performance. We performed a lot better than at Heps and beat some good teams today," said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Tim Springfield. "Mark gave a solid performance. He has provided steady leadership all season and did that again today."
McGurrin, who also paced the Bears at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships, completed the 10-kilometer course in a time of 31:27.4. Junior Ben Halpin (Danvers, Mass.) and senior Jeff Bush (Westborough, Mass.) placed 61st and 78th, respectively, in times of 31:40.9 and 31:56.8.
Simon Belete (Blue Springs, Mo.) placed 80th as he crossed the finish line in a time of 32:00.0, while freshman Martin Martinez (Waukegan, Ill.) took 88th in a time of 32:07.7 to round out the Brown scorers.
