Brown Grapplers Earn Top Team GPA In Nation For Second Straight Year

Manheim, PA - For the second consecutive season the Brown wrestling team has been honored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) for compiling the top team grade point average in the nation. Last year, Dave Amato's Bears won the award with a 3.2762 combined grade point average. This year, Brown improved its standing, finishing with a team GPA of 3.3515, good enough to edge second-place Duke, which came in at 3.327.

In addition, senior Mike Savino, a Business Economics concentrator and junior Shawn Kitchner, concentrating in Engineering, were both named to the NWCA All-Academic Team. Savino maintained a grade point average of 3.2 while Kitchner sustained a 3.882.

Savino qualified for the NCAA Championship this season while Kitchner was a First Team All-Ivy and Academic All-Ivy selection.

To qualify for the NWCA All-Academic Team, wrestlers must have a 3.2 GPA and been an NCAA qualifier or won 60 percent of his total schedule and must have competed in 60 percent of team schedule or have a 3.0 and earned NCAA All-American honors.
