Bears Drop 34-7 Decision to Lions

The Brown University Wrestling team fell to the Columbia Lions 34-7 at the Pizzitola Gymnasium today Friday February 14, 2003. Brown is now 8-10 overall and 1-2 in the Ivy League.

Two Brown Bears came away with victories in junior Nick Ciarcia (Berlin, CT) and freshman Mike Ashton (Perry, OH). Ciarcia came away with a 10-5 decision in 184 over Columbia's Kirk Davis as Ashton recorded a 12-3 win over Dan Green of Columbia at 141.

The Lions recorded three falls as Chris Ayers (Newton, NJ lost by fall at 4:59, Adam Santee (Perry, OH) lost by fall at 5:22, and Lucas Magnani (Islip, NY) lost by fall 4:33.

Also wrestling for the Bears but coming away with losses were sophomores Michael Savino (Lawrenceville, NJ0 who lost 9-2 at 157, and Anthony Marconi (Patterson, NY) who lost 12-3 at 133. Freshman heavyweight Lee Beane (Bridgewater, MA) dropped a 2-1 decision in double overtime as fellow freshman Doran Heist also recorded a loss at 197, 10-4.

The Bears will host Cornell tomorrow Saturday February 15, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. in the Pizzitola Gymnasium.
