Providence, RI - In its second match of the day, the Brown wrestling team took a dominating 36-7 win over Ivy League rival Princeton on Saturday at the Pizzitola Center. Sophomores Jeff Schell and Levon Mock recorded pins for the Bears at 125 lbs and 285 lbs, respectively. The win improves Brown to 6-7 overall and 2-5 in the EIWA.
Brown got off to a great start as sophomore Jeff Schell pinned Robert Benitez at 2:12 to give Brown a 6-0 lead. Senior Dan Appello followed with a 5-2 decision over Danny Scotton but Princeton countered with a major decision at 141 lbs. to get to within five, 9-4.
Senior Mike Ashton gave Brown a ten point advantage with a 15-0 technical fall over Andrew Sichel while senior Mike Savino earned a 16-5 major decision over Jesse Palermo at 157 lbs.
Junior Shawn Kitchner took a 9-3 decision over Marty Everin at 165 lbs, increasing Brown's lead to 21-4. After the Tigers earned a 6-4 win at 174 lbs., freshman Branden Stearns won the 184 lbs. bout, 8-1.
Wrestling 2005 NCAA Qualifier, sophomore Leo Saniuk won by injury default after taking a 4-3 lead in the first period of the match. Sophomore Levon Mock ended the match when he pinned Kristopher Kerr at 1:41.
