West Point, NY - With the dual tied at 10-10 after six matches, the Brown wrestling team (1-7, 1-4 EIWA) was shut out in the final four bouts, taking a 23-10 loss at Army (9-4, 5-1) on Sunday. Junior Jeff Schell (Zion Grove, PA), sophomore Tom Fazio (Ringwood, NJ), and freshman Bran Crudden (Columbia, CT) picked up Brown's three wins.
After Army took a major decision at 125 pounds to open the match, Schell got those four points right back. The junior took a 9-1 major decision of his own over William Simpson, who entered the weekend ranked sixth in the EIWA. The Golden Knights then took a six-point lead with decisions at 141 and 149, but Fazio and Crudden brought the Bears back even. Fazio took a 4-2 decision at 157, taking a 3-0 lead into the final period and holding on for the win. Crudden had a similarly tight win, taking a 4-3 victory with riding time. However, that would prove to be the final win for the Bears, as their hosts won the final four matches.
The Bears will hit the road again next weekend, with a pair of Ivy and EIWA match-ups with Penn and Princeton, and a non-conference contest with Drexel.
