Grapplers Dominate Rutgers In 29-9 Win

Providence, RI - The Brown wrestling team improved to 3-3 on the year with its third straight win on Saturday evening at the Pizzitola Center. The Bears defeated Rutgers by a scored of 29-9. Brown took wins in seven of its eight matches on the night.

At 125 freshman Jeff Schell improved to 16-4 on the year with a 3-1 win over Rick Ringel. Junior Dan Appello followed up with a major decision win over Dan Hilt at 133, 13-5. Appello scored 12 of his 13 points off takedowns. The win was his 10th of the season.

At 141, Mark Savino was defeated by Steve Adamcsik 6-1 to cut the lead to four, 7-3. Rutgers forfeited at 149, giving Brown a 13-3 advantage. At 157, junior Mike Savino upped the Bears lead to 13 with an 8-6 win over Gene Zannetti.

Senior Heath Lohrman won by a 5-0 scored at 165 over Joe Sacco, his sixth win of the season. Junior Mike Pedro earned a 14-5 victory over Robert Kaiser at 174 to give Brown a 23-3 lead.

Brown forfeited at 184 to bring the score to 23-9 in favor of Brown. Junior Doran Heist won by injury default at 197 over Chris Ressa to end the match with the final score 29-9 since there was no match at heavyweight.

Brown will be back in action next Saturday at Army.
