Brown Wrestling Competes in Lone Star Duals

Senior David Dies (Akron, OH) went 3-1 on the day leading the Bears as the team faced off against several of the nations best at the Lone Star Duals in Arlington, Texas. The Bears started the day losing to 24th ranked Northern Illinois 19-12. Junior Clinton Hicks (Berlin, NJ), Dies, sophomore Mike Savino (Lawrenceville, NJ), and senior Sean Jenkins (Schnecksville, PA) all picked up wins for the Bears. In the highlight match of the dual, senior 184 pounder Nick Ciarcia (Berlin, CT) dropped a 4-2 decision to the nations 4th ranked 184 pound grappler, Northern Illinois' Ben Heizer.

Following Brown's battle with Northern Illinois the Bears fell to the 19th ranked Wisconsin Badgers 35-9. Ciarcia picked up a decision over highly touted Brady Reinke, and sophomore Lee Beane (Bridgewater, MA) picked up a forfeit. Wisconsin's Cole Wunnicke gave Dies his only loss of the day. Wunnicke threw Dies to his back in the first period taking an early 5-0 lead. He fought off his back and pursued Wunnicke for the final two periods but was unable to secure a late takedown falling 8-7.

Brown picked up their first dual meet victory of the season with a 28-9 defeat of Cal State-Fullerton. Brown won seven of ten weights en route to the victory that saw Ciarcia bump up to 197 to defeat #15 Landon Seefeldt, as well as heavyweight Beane using a foot sweep to pin Fullerton's Matthew Fitu.

In the final dual of the day Brown faced off against the 21st ranked Boilermakers of Purdue. Dies and Jenkins were the lone victors for the Bears as the team fell by a score of 30-6.
