NEW YORK – Brown University wrestling junior Justin Staudenmayer dropped a decision in the wrestle-backs in the 157-pound division to conclude the Bears' run at the 2016 NCAA Championships at Madison Square Garden on Friday.
Staudenmayer (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) persevered through an extended blood time break in the first period before eventually falling, 4-3, to Northern Iowa's Bryce Steiert, the runner up at 157 lbs. at the MAC Championships, in the second round of the consolation bracket.
Making his second consecutive NCAA appearance, Staudenmayer earned a 4-3 win on Thursday over Leroy Barnes of Missouri in the wrestle-backs to claim his second win at the national tournament in as many years.
