BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Christian LaBrie and freshman CJ LaFragola each won via major decision to lead Brown University wrestling to a 32-12 win over Bloomsburg University on Sunday afternoon in a non-league dual meet at Nelson Field House.
The Bears (3-6) took four wins through forfeit en route to their win over the host Huskies (1-12).
LaBrie (Exeter, R.I.) captured a 12-1 win at 165 lbs. over Mathew Carr to put Brown up 22-6 in the team score, and LaFragola (Little Egg Harbor, N.Y.) followed with a 14-6 triumph at 174 lbs. against the Huskies' Casey Glunt.
Sophomores Michael Russo (Jersey City, N.J.), Jimmy Bell (Greenwich, Conn.), and Charlie Banaszak (Bethesda, Md.) along with freshman Ian Butterbrodt (North Andover, Mass.) claimed forfeit victories at 125, 141, 149, and 285 lbs. respectively.
At 165 lbs., LaBrie took a 6-0 lead after the first period with a takedown and a 4-point near fall. He tallied a takedown in the second stanza and added a takedown, escape, and riding time point in the third.
Moving to 174 lbs., LaFragola scored a takedown in the opening period before posting a pair of takedowns in the second to move ahead, 6-4. He won the third period, 8-2, with three takedowns, an escape, and a point for riding time.
Next, Brown hosts Penn on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. and Princeton on Sunday, Feb. 7 at noon in its first home duals of the season over the team's Alumni Weekend.
