Wrestling Posts Nation’s Fourth-Best GPA, Bernstein Named NWCA All-Academic
2013-14 NWCA All-Academic Top 30 Team Release
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown wrestling team posted a 3.31 team grade point average for the fourth-best mark in the nation and junior All-American Ophir Bernstein (Allen, Texas) landed on the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic Team, it was announced in the NWCA Division I All-Academic Top 30 release on Tuesday.
Under the watch of first-year Head Coach Todd Beckerman, the Bears continue to steadily climb the nation's academic standings after placing sixth in 2013, eighth in 2012 and 19th in 2011. Brown ranks second among Ivy League teams, second only to first-place Harvard (3.3657). The Crimson claims the country's best GPA for the second year in a row and the fourth time in five years.
"This is a great honor. Our team works very hard in the classroom pursuing an Ivy degree," said Beckerman. "Academics and athletics are a very high priority at Brown and this recognizes all the hard work they put in throughout the year."
"Brown's curriculum is rigorous and challenging, and this exemplifies just how hard every one of our team members works in the classroom, while also working hard in our wrestling room to help us achieve success on the mat."
Bernstein, Brown wrestling's first All-American since 1998, is a political science concentrator. Also an Academic All-Ivy selection, Bernstein finished eighth at the NCAA Championships and posted a 36-11 record, just one win shy of tying Brown's single season record.
