PROVIDENCE, R.I. – First-year Head Coach Todd Beckerman will guide the Brown wrestling team in its first official competition under the former Nebraska All-American's watch as the Bears head to the East Stroudsburg open on Saturday.
"I am very excited to see the team compete this weekend," Beckerman said. "We put in a lot of hard work this preseason and this is the fun part of wrestling: going out, competing and getting your hand raised."
On the mat, the Bears will be led by recently-named tri-captains junior Ophir Bernstein (Allen, Texas), senior Cortlandt Choate (Orwigsburg, Pa.) and junior Ricky McDonald (Carson City, Nev.). Newly-named Assistant Coach Joe LeBlanc will also quickly put to use his experience and wisdom gained as a four-time All-American at Wyoming.
One of the oldest open wrestling tournaments in the nation, the ESU Open annually attracts top talent from around the country.
Weigh-in is scheduled for 7 a.m. on Sunday with wrestling set to begin on 10 mats in Koehler Fieldhouse at 9 a.m. The top three placewinners in each weight class will receive awards.
