Bernstein to Represent Israel at World University Wrestling Championship
PECS, HUNGARY – Brown All-American wrestler Ophir Bernstein (Allen, Texas) will grapple on an international mat for the third time in his decorated college career as he represents Israel at the 11th World University Wrestling Championship in Hungary, beginning with today’s round of 16 in the 86 kg freestyle.

Bernstein Wins Bronze at World University Wrestling Championship
PECS, HUNGARY – Brown All-American wrestler Ophir Bernstein (Allen, Texas) took home a bronze medal in the 86 kg freestyle at the 11th World University Wrestling Championship in Hungary on Wednesday. Representing Israel, Bernstein fell in the opening match to eventual-champion Piotr Ianulov of Moldova but rebounded with two wins in the repechage to tie for third place.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown wrestling Head Coach Todd Beckerman announced on Monday that his first recruiting class will feature eight freshmen who will join the team for the 2014-15 season. PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown wrestling team posted a 3.31 team grade point average for the fourth-best mark in the nation and junior All-American Ophir Bernstein (Allen, Texas) landed on the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic Team, it was announced in the NWCA Division I All-Academic Top 30 release on Tuesday.

Bernstein Finishes NCAA Wrestling Championship in Eighth Place
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Twelfth-seeded junior All-American wrestler Ophir Bernstein (Allen, Texas) finished in eighth place in the 184-pound weight class after falling 6-1 against sixth-seeded Jacob Swartz of Boise State at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at Chesapeake Energy Arena on Saturday. Bernstein became the fourth All-American in Brown wrestling history and the first since Tivon Abel in 1998 when he went 1-2 yesterday. He finishes the season with 36 wins, just one/two win/s shy of the Brown single season record set by Steve Thoma in 1991-92.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Twelfth-seeded junior wrestler Ophir Bernstein (Allen, Texas) became the fourth All-American in Brown wrestling history and the first since Tivon Abel in 1998 when he went 1-2 in day two action at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at Chesapeake Energy Arena on Friday. Bernstein returns to action tomorrow to contend for seventh place in the 184-pound weight class when the medal round begins at 11 a.m.

Bernstein makes his third consecutive trip to the national stage and will open up against unseeded Zack Hernandez of Columbia in first round action on Thursday, March 20.

Classmate and fellow captain Ricky McDonald (Carson City, Nev.) narrowly missed the cut to NCAAs and placed seventh in the 174-pound weight class.

Bernstein can secure his third straight bid to the NCAA Championships with a semifinal win tomorrow and McDonald can earn his first trip to the national stage by winning out in the consolation bracket.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A wild Mountain Hawks comeback spoiled an early Bears lead as the Brown wrestling team fell to No. 20 Lehigh, 26-17, in EIWA dual meet action at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Saturday. Lehigh improves to 9-6 overall while the Bears move to 3-10 on the season.

Twelve Brown wrestlers competed in the field of over 300 wrestlers at the Bears’ last open event leading up to dual competition.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown wrestling team hits the mat for the first time in 2014 at the Franklin & Marshall Open on Saturday at the Alumni Sport and Fitness Center's Schnader Fieldhouse. This year's competition features nearly 300 wrestlers from teams such as Maryland, Princeton, American, Drexel, Bucknell, Navy and George Mason.

EVANSTON, Ill. – The Brown wrestling team finished in 14th place out of 47 teams at the conclusion of the 51st Ken Kraft Midlands Championships at Northwestern University on Monday. The second day of action saw junior Ophir Bernstein (Allen, Texas) turn in the Bears' top performance with a fourth place finish in the 184 pound weight class. Brown accumulated 29.5 points, trailed Ivy League rival Columbia by just two places in the overall standings and finished ahead of Princeton (28th) and Harvard (29th).

WILKES-BARE, Pa. – Senior Giuseppi Lanzi (Amsterdam, N.Y.) dominated the opposition en route to first place in the 165 pound weight class and led a trio of Brown wrestlers at the 81st annual Wilkes Open at Wilkes University on Saturday. Senior Vincent Moita (Clayton, Calif.) worked his way to the 125 pound weight class finals and placed second, while sophomore August Marker (Castle Rock, Colo.) took third at 197.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Three days of tournament action wrap up the 2013 calendar year for the Brown wrestling team, but the Bears are just gearing up as Friday’s 81st Annual Wilkes Open (Wilkes University, Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) and the two-day 51st Ken Kraft Midlands Championships (Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill.) will set the tone for plenty of single and dual meet action in January. Following a seventh place finish at the Navy Classic on Nov. 23, the Bears will square off against the field that features 13 teams ranked in the nation’s top 25.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Junior Ophir Bernstein (Allen, Texas) tore through the competition, including a pair of top-20 opponents, and won the 184 pound weight class as the Brown wrestling team finished in seventh place in the 14-team field at the Navy Classic on Saturday. The Bears placed ahead of EIWA foe Bucknell and Big 12 power West Virginia while finishing just behind Ohio with 72.5 points.

Following one season as an assistant at Indiana University, LeBlanc will serve as Beckerman's top assistant and will aid in all aspects of the program.
