Watterson and Bernstein Grab Victories as Brown Falls to Army, 29-9

WEST POINT, NEW YORK – The Brown wrestling team (6-5. 1-3 EIWA) earned two solid individual victories and battled through two close matches but ultimately fell, 29-9, to the Army Black Knights (5-5, 2-1 EIWA) in today's EIWA match-up at the United States Military Academy.

The Bears grabbed an early lead over the home team, as junior Billy Watterson (Pound Ridge, NJ), wrestling at 125 pounds, pinned Hunter Wood at 3:59 into the match to put Brown up 6-0. The win was Watterson's 12th of the season, lifting his individual record to 12-12.

Army quickly tied the score, as Jordan Thome pinned Beau Martino (Haymarket, VA) just 1:29 into the 133-pound match, and the Black Knights surged ahead when Tyler Rauenzahn defeated Cortlandt Choate (Orwigsburg, PA), 5-2, at 141 pounds. The home team won the next four bouts, although Philip Marano (Northampton, PA) took Army's Brian Harvey into a sudden victory period before falling, 5-3.

(Allen ,TX) halted Army's momentum, grabbing another three points for the Bears in the 184-pound weight class when he defeated Ryan Tompkins, 10-7.  The victory, his third consecutive triumph, puts the sophomore at  an impressive 14-6 individual record.

Army wrestled to victory in the last two weight classes, including a sudden victory match between DJ Ingham (Fulton, NY) and Curtis Garner, to secure the 29-9 win over Brown.

The Bears have next weekend off, but will travel to Pennsylvania the following weekend for three league matches. Brown will take on two Ivy League foes on Saturday, February 9, wrestling Princeton at 10:00am and Penn at 2:00pm, before tackling Lehigh at 3:00pm on Sunday, February 10.
