Brown Faces Drexel, Penn and Princeton, All on Saturday

Philadelphia, Penn. – Brown had a very busy Saturday, as the team traveled to Pennsylvania and to on three local area teams: Drexel and Ivy League rivals Penn and Princeton. The Bears fell to the Dragons 22-14, nearly topped Princeton, 16-22. Against some of the top-ranked wrestlers in the country at Penn, Brown had some close matches, but fell 35-0. 

Brown picked up three individual wins against Drexel. At 125, T.J. Popolizio was victorious due to a technical fall at 5:54. Patrick LaBuz also picked up a win at 157 for the Bears. Brown's final victory against the Dragons came at 184 when Ziad Kharbush picked up a 5-1 decision.

The Bears took on four different wrestlers ranked in the top-20 in their respective weight classes at Penn and several Brown wrestlers came close to pulling the upset. At 141, Grant Overcashier lost a close decision to No. 10 Zack Kemmerer, 4-1. LaBuz and Kharbush also lost a close ones, 8-5 and 6-4, respectively. At 197, Brandon Shull was also right there, falling by decision, 2-0.

Finally, against Princeton, the Bears almost pulled out a huge victory, trailing by just one with two matches left. Brown picked up four wins versus the Tigers.  Cortlandt Choate was victorious at 133, taking a 6-4 decision. At 165, it was Dave Foxen who came away with the win, 11-2. Overcashier and Giuseppi Lanzi also added wins for the Bears at 141 an 149, respectively.
