Wrestling Weekend Wrapup:  Brown Hosts Nationally Ranked Rutgers and Maryland

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown wrestling team really challenged themselves over this past weekend, welcoming No. 11 Rutgers and No. 27 Maryland to the Pizzitola Center on Saturday and Sunday. The high level of competition will greatly benefit the Bears as they face off against Ivy League teams later in the season.

Against the Scarlet Knights, Giuseppi Lanzi nearly pulled off the upset at 149 but lost by decision, 5-3 to Mario Mason. The Bears nearly picked up a win at 133 but Cortlandt Choate was narrowly edged in the decision, 6-4.

Brown started out strong against the Terrapins, as Billy Watterson pinned Pat Strizki at 125 to earn the Bears some valuable points in the dual standings. Lanzi picked up a win of his own against Dan O'Malley as he was victorious at 149 in a 4-2 decision. Bruno also picked up a win a 174 when Brandon Vorrius pinned Alex Pagnotta.

The Bears return to action on Jan. 15 in Dallas, Texas at the Lone Star Duals.
