The Bears came out strong against Hofstra on Saturday afternoon, winning the first three events en route to an 18-17 victory during the first weekend of dual competition. Senior Stephen DeLorenzo earned his third win in three matches, picking up a 3-1 decision at 141 pounds. With the win, Brown improves to 2-1 on the season.
Senior Greg Einfrank kicked off the action for the Bears with a forfeit win, giving Bruno an important early lead. Rookie Cortlandt Choate followed that with another decision at 133, knocking off Hofstra's Jeff Rotella by a convincing 13-6 margin. DeLorenzo then made it three classes in a row with his 3-1 win over Luke Vaith.
After Hofstra came back to tie the action following three consecutive wins of its own, senior Jeff Lemmer turned the momentum back in Brown's favor, earning a 10-4 decision over Jon Rothman at 174 pounds. Though Hofstra ended the match by winning two of three events, senior Branden Stearns took a crucial 3-2 victory at 197, sealing the win for Brown and giving them a winning record in the early season.
The Bears will be back in action on January 16th, when they travel to compete at the Lonestar Duals.
