Dec. 26, 2007

Providence, RI - For the second consecutive year, Brown junior Mike Gartner (San Jose, CA) has been named an Honorable Mention Division I All-American by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches. Gartner finished the season ranked 13th in the nation with 74 goals, also drawing a team-high 96 ejections in 31 games.

The honor caps off another fantastic season for Gartner. He was named First Team All-Northern Division for the third time in his three seasons at Brown, and was named First Team All-Tournament at the Eastern Championship for the second time. An applied mathematics concentrator, he was one of 10 Brown student-athletes named Academic All-Ivy for the fall season.

A dominant player at two-meter forward, Gartner led the Bears in scoring by 19 goals and in ejections drawn by 62. He also had a team-high .592 shot percentage among Bears with more than 10 attempted shots.

The Division I All-American teams were dominated by players from California, with just two of the 26 players named to the first, second, and third teams coming from schools outside of the Golden State. Gartner was one of two CWPA Northern Division players named honorable mention.
