Four Bears Earn CWPA All-North Honors

Providence, RI - Four members of the No. 17 Brown men's water polo received All-North honors Friday evening during the 2008 Eastern Championship Hall of Fame Banquet in Annapolis, MD. Earning first team All-North was seniors Mike Gartner (San Jose, CA) and Grant LeBeau (San Diego, CA), while Gordon Hood (Carlsbad, CA) received second time honors and freshman Toby Espinosa (Palo Alto, CA) was named the CWPA Northern Division Rookie of the Year.
Gartner is a two-time Honorable Mention Division I All-American and a four-time First Team All-North selection in his four-year career. He scored four goals during last night's 12-6 victory over Johns Hopkins and is second on the team in scoring with 58 goals. He leads the team in ejections drawn (114), and has handed out 11 assists this season. He received Northern Division Player of the week honors twice.
LeBeau, a second team honoree last year, earned first team honors this season. He notched three goals in last night's competition to give him a total of 59 on the year. He is second on the team in assists with 38, and has picked up 18 steals. Also being named to the second team All-North is Hood, who is third on the team in scoring with 54 goals. He has handed out 14 assists and has 16 steals on the season.
Earning Northern Division Rookie of the Year honors was Brown's Espinosa. Espinosa has helped the squad to a 17-10 record scoring three goals, including one in last night's big win over Johns Hopkins. The Bears will take on No. 13 ranked and Southern Division champion Princeton University at 5:30 p.m. today.
