Oct. 11, 2008
Bronx, NY - Senior Mike Gartner (San Jose, CA) and junior Gordon Hood (Carlsbad, CA) each scored four goals to help lead the Brown men's water polo team (7-5, 4-0 CPWA) to a 12-6 victory over Fordham on Friday evening.
The Rams took an early 3-1 lead in the second quarter, but the Bears clawed their way back by going on a 6-2 run to end the first half with a 7-5 edge over the Rams. Brown held the Rams to just one goal in the second half as junior goalkeeper Kent Holland (Orinda, CA) finished the game with 14 saves, including blocking two penalty shots to help the Bears to a 12-6 victory.
Hood continued his scoring streak by adding four goals in the contest, while Gartner pitched in with four and added nine drawn ejections. Senior Hank Weintraub (Los Angeles, CA) scored two goals, while senior Nico Fort (Miami, FL) and junior Corey Schwartz (Los Angeles, CA) each had one goal.
"Our power play was not very good tonight," said Head Coach Felix Mercado. "Mike (Gartner) gave us many opportunities to work on it and we just struggled. Holland played another fabulous game in the cage and was the difference in the second half."
Brown was back in action today, as they took on Iona and Queens.
