Gordon Hood Named CWPA Northern Division Player of the Week

Oct. 1, 2008
Providence, RI - Brown University two-meter defender Gordon Hood (Carlsbad, CA) scored six goals with an assist, two steals and an ejection drawn to earn the Sept. 29 CWPA Northern Division Player of the Week award. He helped lead the Bears to a 15-7 victory over the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a 9-8 win over No. 11 St. Francis College last week.
Against the Engineers, Hood tallied three goals and recorded two steals to help the Bears down MIT, and against St. Francis, he posted a team-high three goals with an ejection drawn and an assist to the Bears' upset of the Terriers. The victory marked the Terriers first Northern Division regular season loss, excluding the end of the season Northern Division Championship, since Oct. 19, 2002 when Harvard defeated the Terriers 15-11 at Connecticut College ending a 35-game division regular season win streak by St. Francis.
Further, it marked St. Francis' first Northern Division loss (championship or regular season) in a league record 40 games dating back to November 2, 2003 when Queens College collared the Terriers' 10-9 in sudden death overtime at Harvard University for the Division Championship.
The Brown men's water polo team is back in action today, when it takes on Harvard at 7:30 p.m. in Cambridge.
