Brown Men's Water Polo Honored By ACWPC for Highest Team GPA In the Nation

May 1, 2008
Providence, RI - Brown's men's water polo team was named the top All-Academic Team on Monday by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches for having the highest cumulative team GPA, coming in at 3.397. In addition, eight of the 11 eligible Bears were honored as members of the 2007 CWPA All-Academic Team, led by senior captain Alex Robb (Winnetka, IL), who was named to the "Outstanding" level for having a GPA above 3.71.
The ACWPC All-Academic honors follow the same pattern as the CWPA's awards, with three tiers based on the player's GPA. Making the "Superior" list for a GPA between 3.4 to 3.71 were four Bears - sophomore Kent Holland (Orinda, CA), freshman Corey Schwartz (Los Angeles, CA), junior Mike Gartner (San Jose, CA), and junior Hank Weintraub (Los Angeles, CA). Senior captain Gerrit Adams (Winnetka, IL) and juniors Nico Fort (Miami, FL) and Grant LeBeau (San Diego, CA) round out the group, being named to the "Excellent" group (3.2-3.4 GPA).
In team GPA, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was second to the Bears at 3.348, followed by Stanford at 3.340. Although not all members of the Brown team earned All-Academic honors, all 11 members of the team carried at least a 3.0 GPA through the Fall 2007 semester.
