Brown Water Polo Defeats MIT 15-7

Cambridge, MA - Seniors Nico Fort (Miami, FL) and Mike Gartner (San Jose, CA), and sophomore Gordon Hood (Carlsbad, CA) each scored three goals to help lead the Brown men's water polo team (4-5) to a 15-7 victory over MIT yesterday evening.

Bruno took a quick 5-1 lead in the first quarter, and added five more in the second to take a 10-2 lead over the Engineers heading into halftime. Brown kept momentum on its side, scoring five more goals in the third to eventually cruise to a 15-7 victory over MIT.

Gartner added six ejections drawn along with his three goals, and senior Hank Weintraub (Los Angeles, CA) added five ejections drawn to go along with his one goal and two assists.

"We were very aggressive on the defensive end and that led to some goals that took MIT out of the game," said Head Coach Felix Mercado. "Everyone was able to contribute to a great effort and get us back on the winning track."

Rounding out Bruno's attack was junior Zach Levko (Wildwood, MO), sophomore Corey Schwartz (Los Angeles, CA), sophomore Brandon Yoshimura (Haverford, PA), freshman Marcus Gartner (Miami, FL) and senior Grant LeBeau (San Diego, CA) each with one goal.

Junior goalkeeper Kent Holland (Orinda, CA) tallied four saves during the game, as freshman Max Lubin (Beverly Hills, CA) picked up one save.

Brown is back in action this weekend, as it takes on St. Francis on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Connecticut College in New London. CT. The Bears will challenge the Terriers at 11:00 a.m.
