BRIDGEPORT, Pa. – No. 14 Brown University men's water polo junior utility Spencer Carroll and freshman goalkeeper Riad Hallal have gained Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) weekly honors, the Collegiate Water Polo Association announced on Tuesday.
Carroll (Newport Beach, Calif.) earned NWPC Player of the Week honors while Hallal (Coronado, Calif.) garnered NWPC Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week accolades as the Bears beat Conn. College, 11-5, on Nov. 8.
Winning NWPC Player of the Week for the first time, Carroll totaled four assists, one goal, two steals, and an ejection drawn against the Camels. He helped the Bears use a 10-0 run to take a 10-1 lead early in the third quarter.
Hallal registered nine saves on a .900 save percentage with a steal in the first half and scored a goal as a field player in the second half vs. Conn. College. Hallal has totaled seven NWPC weekly awards this year. He has won NWPC Defensive Player of the Week accolades twice – Sept. 6 and Nov. 14 – and has earned NWPC Rookie of the Week five times – Sept. 14, Oct. 11, Oct. 25, Nov. 2, and Nov. 14.
This weekend, No. 4 seed Brown will play No. 5 seed MIT in the first round of the NWPC Championship on Friday, Nov. 17 at 8:00 p.m. at Harvard's Blodgett Pool in Cambridge, Mass.
