Coach Mercado Elected President of Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown water polo Head Coach Felix Mercado has been elected President of the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches, it was announced by ACWPC Executive Director Larry Sanders on Monday.
"I'm excited to fill this position and feel that as an association, we can accomplish plenty," Mercado said. "I look forward to working with my fellow coaches to continue to improve our great sport at the collegiate level."
Mercado recently led the No. 19 Brown men's water polo team to its third straight 20-plus win season that culminated in a 15-9 victory over Harvard to earn fifth place at the Collegiate Water Polo Association Eastern Championships. In his seventh season at the helm of the Bears, Mercado mentored two CWPA Northern Division First Team picks in senior James McNamara (Encino, Calif.) and junior Henry Fox (Mercer Island, Wash.).
Mercado and the women's water polo team open the 2014 competitive season on Feb. 1 when the Bears host the two-day Brown Invitational at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
