PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Four hat tricks, including three from freshmen, led the No. 18 Brown men's water polo team to a decisive 14-5 victory over Cal Lutheran on the opening day of the Bruno Fall Invitational in the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center on Friday. The Bears improve to 4-2 on the season while the Kingsmen drop to 1-5.
Freshman Luke Irwin (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), freshman Jake Wyatt (Corona Del Mar, Calif.), freshman Warren Smith (Dallas, Texas) and sophomore Matty Gallas (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) each scored three goals on the evening in a contest that was controlled by Brown from the start.
Gallas added three assists and two steals to his trifecta of goals, while junior Nick Deaver (Orinda, Calif.) contributed two helpers and two steals. Senior Walker Shockley (Diamond Bar, Calif.) and junior Andrew Brown (Western Springs, Ill.) split the goal keeping duties, making five and two saves, respectively.
The Bears are slated for a pair of matches tomorrow, beginning with No. 17 Navy at 12 p.m. followed by the Engineers of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at 5 p.m.
