Bronx, NY- The No. 13 Brown men's water polo team improved its record to 17-2 with victories over Iona and Fordham this afternoon. The Bears defeated the Gaels 14-11 and went on to earn a dominating 17-7 win over the Rams.
In an even first half where the Gaels and Bears were tied 6-6 at halftime, Brown came out of the intermission re-energized to outscore Iona 5-2 in the third to gain a 11-8 lead. Both squads put in three goals in the fourth quarter to give Bruno a 14-11 win.
Henry Fox and Will Klein led the attack with four goals each, while Fox added three steals for the Bears. Matty Gallas and James McNamara posted two goals each, with Fox helping out with four assists and two steals. Nick Deaver and Ryan Gladych added one goal apiece.
The Bears cruised to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter of play against the Fordham Rams, and outscored the Rams 4-3 in the second to head into halftime with an 8-4 lead. Then, Bruno had a big five-goal third quarter to extend the lead to eight, and then added four goals in the fourth to take a 17-7 win.
Svetozar Stefanovic led the offense with five goals, followed by Cyrus Mojdehi with three. Bryan Russell, Nick Deaver and Henry Fox each added two goals, while Fox handed out four assists. Gallas, Eric Robb and Klein also helped out with one goal.
The Bears will now travel to Harvard for an 8 p.m. match on Oct. 11.
