Providence, RI- Head Water Polo Coach Felix Mercado has recently announced three additions to his 2012 men's water polo roster. Matty Gallas (Los Angeles, CA), Hank Lee (Newport Beach, CA) and Will Klein (Pasadena, CA) will join the 12 returners who finished last season with a 20-11 overall record. The 2012 squad will enjoy competing in the newly constructed Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center, which opened in April.
"I'm excited to add three quality athletes to our program," said Mercado. "I expect them to make an immediate impact and help us compete for an Eastern Championship."
Matty Gallas 6'1 Attacker from Los Angeles CA, Chadwick High School
Matty Gallas attended Chadwick School in Palos Verdes Peninsula, California, and is on the school's all-time water polo top ten lists for both single-season and career in goals, steals, and assists. Gallas was a two-time first-team Daily Breeze All-Area pick for water polo, a three-time All-CIF water polo pick, and a four-time All-Prep League water polo honoree. He was a Chadwick water polo team captain in his junior and senior years. Gallas has been a member of Los Angeles Water Polo Club for two years and helped his team to a silver medal finish in the National Junior Olympics in 2011 in the 16U Division. In swimming, Gallas was a team captain in his sophomore, junior and senior years, won seven Prep League individual championships and was Prep League Swimming MVP in both his junior and senior seasons. He was a finalist in the CIF Division 2 Championships in 2011 (in the 100 Freestyle) and 2012 (in the 50 and 100 Freestyles), and was a first-team Daily Breeze All-Area pick for swimming in 2012.
Hank Lee 6'1 Attacker from Newport Beach CA, Newport Harbor High School
Henry Lee, a 6'1" 180 lb right-handed utility player from Newport Beach California was a two-year varsity water polo player and swimmer at Newport Harbor High School. Henry was also a member of the Newport Beach Water Polo Club where he was a four-time Junior Olympic participant with his team. As a varsity swimmer he was primarily a distance swimmer, swimming the 200 and 500 freestyle. He qualified for Sunset League finals in these events. Henry was four-time USA Water Polo Academic All-American with honors (4.0 +) as well as traveling to Hungary and Croatia for international training and competition.
Will Klein Fr. Utility 6-4 210 Pasadena, CA (Pasadena High School)
Will Klein, 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, played four years for the Rose Bowl Water Polo Club under coaches Dan Leyson and Jason Falitz. Will helped his 18U team to a seventh-place finish in the 2011 Junior Olympics. He was a two-year captain at Pasadena High School in Pasadena, Calif. After his senior season, Will was selected to a CIF All-Southern Section team and the San Gabriel Valley All-Area team. He participated in USA Water Polo's ODP Coastal Zone training in 2010-11 and also was a 2011 USA Water Polo Academic All-American. Will also captained the swim team and played baseball at Pasadena High.
